Lyndon Johnson won a landslide victory in the 1964 presidential election. Of note, this was the only election where Alaska voted with the Democrats. Washington DC received electoral votes as a result of the 23rd Amendment in 1962. It first participated in the 1964 election, voting Democratic. It has never voted Republican.
