Uncontested U.S. House Races
2024 elections with only one major party on the ballot
This page will track the U.S. House races in 2024 where only one major party is on the ballot. It will be updated as the major party primaries are held (view results by state). There is also a section for districts expected to meet the criteria, but where the primary has not yet occurred.
For a variety of reasons, there can be changes after these primaries. As a result, some districts initially included on the list may be moved to a different category or removed completely.
Looking back, there were 35 races on the uncontested list in 2022, up from 27 in 2020.
Totally Unopposed
It is rare that this list includes the party not currently holding the seat, but that is the situation we have in NC-06. Mid-cycle redistricting shifted this to a safely GOP district. Incumbent Democrat Kathy Manning is retiring and no Democrats stepped up to contest the seat.
Outside of that exception, this list includes seats where the incumbent party has the ballot all to themselves. The only opposition would be via write-in, where that is allowed.

Same Party Opposition
California and Washington hold primaries where all candidates, regardless of party, appear on a single ballot. The two highest finishers go on to the general election. If the two advancing candidates are from the same party, they appear in this section. A very unusual situation occurred in CA-16 this year: there was a tie for second place. As a result, three Democrats will vie for the seat in November.
