This year's elections will be conducted using redistricted boundaries. In Virginia, state-run primaries are canceled when a candidate is running unopposed. They are also canceled in districts where a party conducts its own nominating contest.
As a result, there are only five total primaries - four Republican and one Democratic - across the state's 11 congressional districts. Live results are listed below.
Two of these primaries are worth watching as they are associated with what are expected to be closely-contested general elections.
District | Party | Comments |
2 | R | Elaine Luria (D) is seeking a 3rd term in this competitive district made slightly redder in redistricting. There are four candidates seeking the GOP nomination. |
7 | R | Abigail Spanberger (D) is also seeking a 3rd term in a competitive district. However, this district was made slightly bluer in redistricting. There are six Republicans seeking the nomination. |
