Two governorships to be contested in 2025; 36 in 2026

The incumbent party won each gubernatorial election in 2024. As such, the nearly even partisan split of 27 Republicans and 23 Democrats is unchanged. New Jersey and Virginia hold elections in 2025; another 36 states follow in 2026. The table below the map lists the current governors of all 50 states, tabbed by the next election year.
