President (40 Electoral Votes)
Likely Republican
Texas has voted Republican in each presidential election since 1980. However, it has moved to the edge of the competitive map. Donald Trump's 5.5% win in 2020 was the closest margin since 1996.
U.S. Senate
Leans Republican
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz is seeking a 3rd term. As in 2018, he has drawn a challenge from a Democrat in the U.S. House and as in 2018 it has become one of the most expensive Senate races of the year.
Cruz won that 2018 race by 2.6% over Beto O'Rourke. This year he faces Colin Allred (TX-32).

Texas has 38 congressional districts and a gerrymandered map that lends itself to little general election competition. Three districts in South Texas are really the only ones in play. Of those, only District 34 is highly competitive.
In 2022, after Census redistricting, Democrat Vicente Gonzalez moved from District 15 to run in the redrawn District 34. He defeated Republican Mayra Flores, had flipped the district in a special election earlier in the year. Flores is back for a rematch.
Republicans Kay Granger (TX-12) and Michael Burgess (TX-26) are retiring and are all but certain to be succeeded by fellow Republicans.
District 18 is vacant after the July death of Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee. In addition to the regular election for this seat, there will be a separate special election to complete Jackson Lee's term. Special election results >
