Vermont Gubernatorial Primaries

Vermont is one of only two states (New Hampshire the other) where governors serve two year terms. First term Republican Gov. Phil Scott is favored for renomination, although his popularity fell sharply after he signed gun control legislation earlier this year. If Scott advances, he'll be favored in the general election, despite the strong Democratic lean of the state. The Democratic ballot includes Christine Hallquist, who is attempting to become the first transgender governor in American history. One of her three primary opponents is 14 year old Ethan Sonneborn. The Vermont Constitution has no age requirement to be governor.

Vermont Senate Primaries

Sen. Bernie Sanders will be the prohibitive favorite to win a third term this fall. He is competing for the Democratic nomination, which he will then decline to run as an independent.

Vermont House Primaries

The state has a single at-large district. Democrat Peter Welch is expected to win a 7th term in November.
