New Features: 2024 Election Calendars, Primary Maps and Polls

We've added 2024 election calendars to the site, along with content associated with the party nomination process.

Much of this information is preliminary. Expect some changes in calendar dates, contest types, delegate counts and allocations as states and political parties finalize their schedules.

Thanks to FHQ, The Green Papers, and NCSL for making it much easier to compile this content.

2024 Presidential Election Calendar

The biggest unknown here is the order and timing for the early state contests that will take place prior to Super Tuesday, March 5. Since 1972, Iowa has gone first with its caucuses, followed by the New Hampshire primary. New Hampshire's 'first in the nation' primary status dates back more than 100 years

Democrats voted earlier this year to upend that calendar, placing South Carolina first on February 3. The Palmetto State was where where President Biden scored his first primary win in 2020, a decisive victory that vaulted him to frontrunner status and the eventual nomination. New Hampshire and Nevada would follow on February 6, Georgia on February 13, and then Michigan on February 27.

While some of these dates should hold, others are running into serious obstacles. For example, in New Hampshire, there is a law requiring the state to hold the first primary. In Georgia, the date of the primary is determined by the Secretary of State, where Republican Brad Raffensperger has set it for March 12. To our understanding, those states also require both parties to hold their primaries on the same date.

What isn't going to change in 2024 is the importance of Super Tuesday. More than a dozen states, including California and Texas, will hold their primaries on that date. The presidential primary calendar runs into the first part of June.

2024 Statewide Primary Calendar

While some states have a consolidated primary, many hold their presidential contest earlier than those for other federal and state offices. This calendar lists the dates for offices other than president, and includes information on primary types and runoff dates, as applicable.

Note that both calendars identify those states where the dates are the same.

2024 Presidential Primary Info and Polling

The pages above have a U.S. map with the estimated number of delegates being awarded in each state or territory. Toward the bottom of the page is a running list of national polls.

Each state on the map can be selected to open a page with more information on the delegate allocation process as well as any available state-level polling.
