President
4 Electoral Votes
Statewide, Maine has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1992. Hillary Clinton won by about 3% in 2016. It is one of two states that does not have a winner-take-all electoral vote allocation: two go to the statewide winner, one for each of two congressional districts. Donald Trump earned an electoral vote in 2016; winning the 2nd district by about 10 points.
First used in 2018, the state employs ranked-choice voting in general elections for federal offices. Voters have the option to rank each candidate on the ballot. It comes into play if no candidate receives a majority of the vote. There is a possibility this could happen in the 2nd district.
