Where no candidate gets a majority of the vote, the top two finishers will have a runoff on December 10.

With the exception of the presidential election in years where it is contested, Louisiana does not have primaries before the general election. In these elections, all candidates from all parties appear on a single ballot. If a candidate gets a majority of the vote, they are elected. Otherwise, the top two finishers meet in a runoff.
