U.S. Senate

Consensus Forecast
Likely Republican

Senator Mike Lee is seeking a third term. Democrats did not nominate a candidate, and instead endorsed Evan McMullin, who is running as an independent. Opposed to Donald Trump, McMullin ran for president as an independent in 2016. While he only received about 0.5% support nationally, he won 21.5% of the vote in Utah.

Only a few pollsters have looked at the race. One of them has continually showed a close election, prompting some forecasters to take it out of the 'safe' column. However, other surveys, including the two most recent, have indicated Lee should win fairly comfortably.

Notably Lee's Senate colleague Mitt Romney has declined to endorse him.

Consensus Forecast

Safe R

These elections will take place under redistricted boundaries. District 4, which was previously the only somewhat competitive district, was made much safer for the GOP in redistricting.

All four incumbent Republicans are expected to be reelected.

State Senate

Republicans hold a dominant 23-6 majority over Democrats in the Utah State Senate. Members serve four-year staggered terms; half the seats are on the ballot this year.

State House

Republicans hold a large 58-17 margin over Democrats in the Utah House of Representatives. Members serve two-year terms.
