President ( Electoral Votes)
Safe Democratic
California has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1992. That is unlikely to change in 2024. Joe Biden won by nearly 30% in 2020.
U.S. Senate
Safe Democratic
Democratic Sen. Laphonza Butler was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) after the death of Sen. Dianne Feinstein in 2023. Butler is not seeking a full term.
In this deep blue state, Rep Adam Schiff (CA-30) is heavily favored to be the next Senator. In addition to the regular election - results below - there is a separate special election that will take place to fill the final few weeks of Feinstein's term. Although not much is likely to happen during this lame-duck period, it will give Schiff a little seniority on his freshman colleagues when the 119th Congress begins in early January.
U.S. House

Five of the 19 Republican-held U.S. House districts won by Joe Biden in 2020 are in California, including three that the president won by double-digits. Four are considered toss-ups.
16-term Republican Ken Calvert also finds himself in a tough race against Democrat Will Rollins. It is a rematch from 2022, with Calvert winning by less than five points.
Republicans best pick-up opportunity looks to be in District 47, where Katie Porter retired to make an unsuccessful bid for U.S. Senate.
The outcome of these six races may go a long way to determining which party controls the House in January.
