President
U.S. House
Four Republican primaries are of particular interest.
District | Primary | Comments |
3 | R |
Republican Lauren Boebert narrowly won reelection here in 2022; it was the closest U.S. House race in the country that year. Her opponent, former Aspen councilman Adam Frisch, will be the Democratic nominee again this year. Boebert wanted no part of this rematch, choosing instead to run for the open District 4 seat on the other other side of the state. A field of six is vying for the nomination. Jeffrey Hurd, former Chair of the Grand Junction Chamber of Commerce has led in fundraising, and has the most establishment backing. Democrats, for their part, are meddling in the race, spending in support of former state Rep. Ron Hanks. The thinking is that Hanks won't be as strong a general election candidate, putting Frisch in a somewhat better position to flip this GOP-leaning district. |
4 | R | Republican Ken Buck resigned from Congress in March. Boebert's move from District 3 came after others had already entered the race; these candidates did not clear the field for her. The Cook Political Report ($) notes that the large field will split the sizeable anti-Boebert vote, helping her win the nomination. She also has the support of Donald Trump. |
5 | R | Doug Lamborn is not seeking reelection in this Republican-leaning district. The primary features former talk radio host Jeff Crank and State Party Chair Dave Williams. This is a battle of establishment (Crank) vs. MAGA (Williams) wings of the party. Williams has been endorsed by Donald Trump. |
8 | R | Newly created after 2020 Census apportionment gave the state an additional seat, this Denver area district is the most politically balanced in the state. In 2022, Democrat Yadira Caraveo won by less than 1% over Republican Barbara Kirkmeyer. Caraveo is unopposed for renomination. Two Republicans are seeking that party's nomination. |
