President (6 Electoral Votes)

Consensus Forecast
Likely Republican

At the presidential level, Iowa has seen some swings since the turn of the century. In 2000 and 2004 it was a major battleground, voting for Al Gore by 0.3% in 2000 and George W. Bush by 0.7% in 2004. It voted twice for Barack Obama before swinging to Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020. Trump won both those years by over 9%.

Polling indicates 2024 may be a bit more competitive, but Trump is likely to prevail.

Toss-up

Democrats won three of the four seats as recently as the 2018 election. In 2022, however, Republicans swept them all. It is possible the pendulum may swing back a bit this year, as both Districts 1 and 3 are rated as toss-ups.
