President (10 Electoral Votes)

Consensus Forecast
Safe Democratic

Maryland has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1992. That is unlikely to change in 2024. Joe Biden won by about 32% in 2020.

U.S. Senate

Consensus Forecast
Likely Democratic

Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin is retiring after three terms. He won his last term by a 35% margin. The only reason this race is remotely competitive is that popular former two-term Gov. Larry Hogan is the Republican nominee.

However, with Kamala Harris likely to win by 30% at the top of the ticket, Hogan would need to rely on a level of ticket splitting that is virtually unheard of these days in order to prevail. Recent polling has shown Democrat Angela Alsobrooks with a lead of 10-15%.

The only marginally competitive race here is in district 6, where David Trone passed on reelection to make what was an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

Trone defeated Republican Neil Parrott in both 2020 and 2022, with that more recent election decided by a 9.5% margin. Parrott is once again the nominee for this district in the western part of the state. April McClain-Delaney is the Democratic nominee.

Outside of that, the other seven seats, held by six Democrats and a Republican, are safe for the incumbent party. However, there will be two fresh faces next year as two long-term Democratic members are retiring: Dutch Ruppersberger (MD-02) and John Sarbanes (MD-03).
