Statewide, Nebraska has voted Republican in every presidential election since 1968. That is unlikely to change in 2024. Donald Trump won by 19% in 2020.
It is one of two states that does not have a winner-take-all electoral vote allocation. Instead, the statewide winner receives two, with one allocated to the winner in each congressional district.
District 1 has always gone Republican and District 3 is deep red territory. However, the Omaha-area District 2 has been much more competitive. While Donald Trump won it in 2016, Joe Biden earned the electoral vote in 2020, besting Trump by about 6.5%.

Both seats are on the ballot this year. In the scheduled election, Republican Sen. Deb Fischer is seeking a third term. She has drawn an unexpectedly strong challenge from independent Dan Osborn. No Democrats are on the ballot.
The special election will be for the final two years of former Sen. Ben Saase's term. That seat is next up in 2026. Saase resigned in January, 2023 to become president of the University of Florida. Newly sworn-in Gov. Jim Pillen appointed his predecessor Pete Ricketts to fill the seat until this special election. Ricketts is on the ballot and heavily favored to win the special election.
U.S. House

Republican incumbents in Districts 1 and 3 should have little trouble winning reelection.
All eyes will be on the Omaha-area District 2, where Republican Don Bacon is locked in a competitive rematch against Democrat Tony Vargas. Bacon prevailed by a 3% margin in 2022.
The incumbent's path to a 5th term may prove a little tougher with the presidential election at the top of the ticket. Kamala Harris is seen as at least a slight favorite to win the district's electoral vote.
State Senate
Unique among the 50 states, Nebraska has a unicameral (single chamber) State Legislature. While officially nonpartisan, the political affiliation of the Senators leans heavily Republican. Members serve four-year staggered terms; the 25 odd-numbered districts are up for election this year.
