13 of the largest 100 cities by population will have elections for mayor on the same day as the 2023 general election. Population rankings are based on July 1, 2022 Census Bureau population estimates. They are for the city itself, not the associated metropolitan area.
While most of these elections are officially nonpartisan, the party affiliation of the current mayor is listed.

A large field is on the nonpartisan ballot to succeed Mayor Sylvester Turner, who is ineligible to run for a third term. However, it looks like a two-person race between two Democrats, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) and State Sen. John Whitmire. The city has not had a Republican mayor since Jim McConn left office in 1982.1 1McConn was succeeded by Houston's first woman mayor, Kathy Whitmire. John Whitmire is her brother-in law.
In the only recent poll of the race, the two were statistically tied. Whitmire had 34% and Jackson Lee 31%. As this race requires a majority vote winner, these two will likely advance to a December 9 runoff.

Mayor Jim Kenney was ineligible to run due to term limits. The nominees are Democrat Cherelle Parker and Republican David Oh. Parker is the prohibitive favorite in this deep blue city.

Mayor Andrew Ginther is favored to win a third term. He is opposed on the nonpartisan ballot by Joe Motil, an independent. Two others, Republican Carrie Griffin and independent Tom Sussi are certified write-in candidates.

Mayor Vi Lyles is favored to win a fourth two-year term. Republican Misun Kim and Libertarian Rob Yates are also on the ballot.

Democratic mayor Joe Hogsett is seeking a third term in office. In 2019, he was reelected by a 72% to 27% margin over his Republican challenger.
The Republican nominee is former city councilman Jefferson Shreve.
A late September poll showed Hogsett with a 47% to 37% lead; 16% were undecided.

Mayor Brandon Whipple finished second, with 24% of the vote, to Lily Wu (30%) in the August nonpartisan primary. Whipple narrowly outpolled Bryan Frye who had 22%.
Wu has also led the incumbent in fundraising.

Republican Mike Coffman is seeking a second term. He won his first term by just 215 votes (0.28%) in a five-person field.
There are two other candidates on the nonpartisan ballot; Coffman's main challenger looks to be progressive Juan Marcano.
The election is officially nonpartisan.

Mayor Buddy Dyer is seeking his 6th term. He was reelected in 2019 with 72% of the vote.
Dyer has drawn three challengers. This race requires a majority vote winner. If no candidate get that, a top two runoff will be held December 5.

Mayoral terms in Durham are for two years. Incumbent Mayor Elaine O'Neal did not seek a second term. Leonardo Williams (51% of the vote) and Mike Woodard (29%) advanced from the October nonpartisan primary.

Democratic Mayor Tom Henry is seeking a 5th term. He was renominated in the May primary and will face Republican Thomas Didier.
Interestingly, in 2003, Didier defeated Henry for the city council seat he now holds.

McLean's main challenger on the four-person ballot appears to be the city's former police chief, Mike Masterson.

Nadine Woodward is seeking a second term. She and Lisa Brown advanced from the August nonpartisan primary. Brown, a Democrat, finished first with 48% of the vote, while Woodward received 37%. Woodward won her first term by a narrow 2% margin in 2019.
