Major General Election Candidates

In terms of this display, available space does not allow for an exhaustive list of candidates.  

Generally, the display for each election will follow these guidelines:

• If both major parties (Democrat and Republican) have a nominee, those names will display
  • In a few instances, where a 3rd party candidate is seeing notable support, that name may also be listed
• If there is one major party nominee and a single opponent, those names will display
• If there is more than one opponent, preference is given to nationally recognized 3rd parties (e.g., Libertarian, Green)
• In elections where multiple candidates from each major party may appear, we will use informed judgment to keep the display manageable.
  • This includes Louisiana as well as locations (e.g., Alaska and Maine) using ranked choice voting
