Virginia Senate District 38 Special Election

There are 40 State Senate districts in Virginia. Currently, the chamber has 21 Democrats and 18 Republicans. The next regularly scheduled election is in 2023.

The District 38 special election will fill a vacancy created by the death of Republican Ben Chafin in January.  The GOP is very likely to hold the seat. According to CNalysis, a site that projects state legislative races, this "is the second most Republican-leaning district in the state."
