On this page, we'll highlight some of the key races to watch in each state.

Georgia

Polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. In elections where no candidate gets a majority of the vote, the top two finishers will meet in a June 18 runoff.

Georgia is the first state this year to hold a down-ballot primary after a separate state-run presidential primary (March 12). There will be many more such primaries through early September.

U.S. House

Court-ordered redistricting modified the state map, but didn't change the bottom line here: There are 9 Republican seats, 5 Democratic ones, and little general election competition. District 6 moved from Safely Republican to Safely Democratic, while District 7 went in the opposite direction. The incumbents in those two suburban Atlanta districts are swapping places.

The only primary of note is in the safely Republican 3rd district, where incumbent Drew Ferguson is retiring.  Five candidates are looking to succeed him. Brian Jack, White House Political Director for Donald Trump, has been endorsed by the former president. Former State Sens. Mike Crane and Mike Dugan, as well as former State Rep. Philip Singleton are also well-funded. A runoff may be needed here.

Judicial

There are three notable elections, two of which involve participants in Donald Trump's election interference case.

State Supreme Court: Contested races involving incumbent justices are rare in Georgia. This one has turned into a proxy battle on abortion rights. While officially nonpartisan, the incumbent Andrew Pinson is a conservative appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) in 2022. His opponent is former Democratic congressman John Barrow.

The winner will serve a six-year term on the Court.

Superior Court: Scott McAfee, the judge presiding over Trump's case, is seeking election to a four-year term. He was appointed by Kemp in 2023.

McAfee has drawn a challenge from civil right attorney Robert Patillo. Remaining on the ballot is attorney Tiffani Johnson, who has since been disqualified.

Fulton County District Attorney: Incumbent Fani Willis brought indictments against Trump and 18 others in August, 2023. She is seeking a second four-year term. Also on the Democratic primary ballot is attorney Christian Wise Smith, who unsuccessfully ran against Willis in 2020.

The winner will advance to the November general election against Courtney Kramer, who is unopposed for the Republican nomination.

Idaho

Polls close at 8:00 PM local time. That's 10:00 PM Eastern for those parts of the state on Mountain Time; 11:00 PM Eastern for areas observing Pacific Time.

In the presidential race, Idaho Republicans held a caucus on March 2. Democrats will caucus this Thursday. These party-run events were required after the Legislature inadvertently eliminated the presidential primary in a bill passed last year. Subsequent efforts to reinstate it failed.

U.S. House

The only contested primary is for the GOP nomination in District 2. Rep. Mike Simpson has drawn two challengers, but is likely to win renomination.

Kentucky

Polls close at 6:00 PM Local Time. The state is split between Eastern and Central Time, so the latest polls close at 7:00 PM Eastern. No calls will be made in statewide races before the final polls close.

President

Unlike most recent contests, the Kentucky ballots include many candidates that have long since left the race. The outcome should still be the same, with Joe Biden and Donald Trump adding all the delegates to their respective totals. There are 53 Democratic delegates and 46 Republican delegates.

U.S. House

Of the six districts, five are held by Republicans. All are safe for the incumbent party. Democrats are not even contesting two of the seats.

Of moderate interest is the Republican primary in District 4. Rep. Thomas Massie is seeking an 8th term. He has often been at odds with his own party, including his support for the recent effort to remove Speaker Mike Johnson. Massie has drawn two challengers, although is expected to be renominated.

Oregon

This election was conducted largely by mail. Expect results after 11:00 PM Eastern Time.

President

Donald Trump is unopposed on the Republican ballot. He will earn all 31 delegates. However, the actual selection of these delegates will be determined at a separate party convention this Saturday.

There are 66 delegates at stake in the Democratic primary; Joe Biden should add these to his total.

U.S. House

Two Democratic primaries are drawing significant interest.

District 3: Long-time Rep. Earl Blumenauer is retiring from this safe Democratic seat. The most notable candidates are State Rep. Maxine Dexter, Susheela Jayapal, a former County Commissioner, and Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales. Jayapal is the sister of Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07). Dexter has received an extraordinary influx of funding support in the closing weeks of the race, with much of it in the form of ads attacking Jayapal.

District 5: Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R) flipped this seat in 2022, narrowly defeating Jamie McLeod-Skinner (D). McLeod-Skinner is back on the primary ballot, and she is being challenged by State Rep. Janelle Bynum. The general election is a true toss-up.

Multnomah County District Attorney

Portland saw nightly protests after the death of George Floyd in 2020. It was around that time that District Attorney Mike Schmidt took office.

A verdict on Schmidt's progressive policies since that period will be rendered by the voters on Tuesday. He is being challenged by Nathan Vasquez, a longtime prosecutor in his own office. Vasquez has gained the support of some in the business and law enforcement community with a tough-on-crime message.

If either candidate gets a majority of the vote, they are elected. Write-ins are allowed, so it is mathematically possible that a runoff will be needed, although that seems unlikely.

California U.S. District 20 Special Election

Polls close at 11:00 PM Eastern Time.

State Assemblyman Vince Fong and Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux advanced from the March 19 top two special primary. As both are Republicans, the party is guaranteed to retain the seat.

Upcoming Elections

This list goes through the final presidential nominating contests on June 8. While some states held their down-ballot statewide primary on the same date as the presidential contest, most did not. Those down-ballot primaries will continue through early September. Bookmark the Statewide Primary Calendar for all these dates and links to live results.
