Live Results: Louisiana Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Louisiana holds municipal elections Saturday. On a statewide basis, ballots will also include four proposed constitutional amendments.

Here's some information on the amendments from the Louisiana Secretary of State. This explainer from the Shreveport Times provides a more succinct overview of each. In each case, a win for 'yes' will effect the change, 'no' retains the status quo.

We'll have the results for these after the polls close at 9:00 PM.

Amendment 1

A 'Yes' vote would give the State Supreme Court disciplinary powers over out-of-state lawyers for work performed within Louisiana. It would also allow the Legislature to create new specialty courts.

Amendment 2

This is the most expansive proposal. A 'yes' vote would cap the maximum income tax rate in the state and rewrite numerous rules dealing with revenue collection and the budget process. At a high level, it "give(s) state lawmakers more power to decide which revenue streams should fund government and how to spend those funds."

Amendment 3

Currently, the state constitution lists specific crimes for which juveniles can be charged as adults. A 'yes' vote would strike this list from the constitution, and empower the Legislature to set these offenses going forward.

Amendment 4

A 'yes' vote would change the timing for filling new judgeships or judicial vacancies to better align these with the regular election calendar.
