New York GOP Rep. Tom Reed Resigns from Congress

Republican Rep. Tom Reed (NY-23) resigned from Congress Tuesday. Reed had previously announced he would not seek reelection; he is departing early to join a lobbying firm.

There will soon be a 7th vacancy. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently appointed Democrat Anthony Delgado (NY-19) to be lieutenant governor. He will succeed Brian Benjamin, who resigned in April. Expect a special election in August, possibly coinciding with the state's rescheduled August 23 congressional primaries.
